What Is The Learning Cycle

The Learning Cycle is a project-based social studies programs for middle school students. Students follow a team of educators around the globe to learn about foreign lands and cultures. They follow the program via the Internet, participating in standards-based learning projects, tracking and communicating directly with the team members along their journey and through live video chats.

The Learning Cycle expands the walls of the classroom as students learn geography, history, life skills and world studies. Each trip will include live video chats so students will get an unforgettable opportunity to see the daily life of the culture being explored.

Mission

Our mission is to get students engaged and to promote cultural and social understanding through fun, high-impact educational programs. We want to teach all youth that one person CAN make a difference!

"Bria and Brian Zeuli will journey to Belize next month and take Hudson Middle School students on a virtual journey with them. They will work with HMS teachers Mike Yell, right, and Chris Glover. It is the first trip of its kind for the couple’s new education initiative, The Learning Cycle.” Star Observer photo by Meg Heaton

ABOUT US

How TLC Got Started

In 1997 Brian Zeuli completed countless hours of training in order to hop in the saddle and bike coast-to-coast… yes, all 2,850 miles on the bike! While preparing for the trip, he was approached by a teacher who thought it would be fun for her students to follow him across the country and learn facts about the cities on his route. She asked if he would be willing to bring along a laptop and send email updates to her class. Brian happily agreed. Word quickly spread through the surrounding schools and towns and Brian’s email list grew long. He had nearly 10,000 students that followed his journey across the country.

In the time since that trip, many, now grown, students have told him how that experience stuck with them and made them want to travel and explore… and it struck him… Students want this and schools need this! Obviously, technology has come a long way since 1997 and now is the time to make an amazing learning experience to engage and inspire youth.

Today, Brian has a Middle School aged son of his own and consistently sees that the experiential and digitally based learning activities are much more impactful! As the world changes, so must our education system! The Learning Cycle strives to create the most followed and memorable educational experiences!
